accommodation: In Gulmarg, you will stay in the Highlands Park Hotel which is one of the most beautiful and rustic in the region. It has an old world colonial charm and is a very warm and comforting place where you can just lay back and relax. The twin share rooms are well done up, bathrooms are big and there is a stove in each room. The restaurant serves tasty Kashmiri specialties (Rogan Josh) along with classic continential and Asian options
guides: The trip will be led from Europe by Nick Parks. He is a member of the British Mountain Guides and has been a full IFMGA Mountain Guide since 1987. He has been leading mountain expeditions on skis (including Gulmarg for a number of years) and has journeyed with clients to some of the most remote corners of the globe. Nick will be supported by other mountain guides as required.
skill/stamina level: stamina_level strong intermediate and above
equipment: Wide, all-mountain skis with a touring binding are required. Snow boarders should bring snow shoes. You must ski at all times with an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. Local hire shops do not cater adequately for this equipmnent, so you must bring it all yourselves or arrange hire through us. See ski touring equipment for the comprehensive equipment list. This list will also be sent to you after booking.
note: Gulmarg is fantastic for expert skiers and snowboarders and also good for intermediate skiers! But it is brilliant for telemarkers! With snow a plenty, you must be a competent powder skier. No previous ski touring experience is required but on most days there is likely to be some walking to access or exit the best runs. You should be willing to skin for an hour or so. It is advised that you prepare yourself with regular hill walks and/or a conditioning program.
